The Oregon Zoo is a certified KultureCity sensory-inclusive venue, providing a welcoming environment with dedicated resources for guests with sensory sensitivities. Visitors can check out sensory bags free of charge at the zoo’s guest services desk. These bags contain noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards, and weighted lap pads to assist individuals who may feel overwhelmed.
Throughout the zoo grounds, KultureCity-approved ‘Sensory Zone’ and ‘Quiet Area’ signs are posted. Quiet Areas are locations with naturally lower crowds and noise levels where guests can sit and decompress. Sensory Zones are areas where noise and activity levels are expected to be high, warning families in advance.
The zoo is fully wheelchair accessible, with paved pathways connecting all major exhibit areas. Assistive listening devices and tactile maps are also available for guests upon request. Zoo staff are trained in sensory inclusion to ensure all families receive appropriate support during their visit.
